| C&S Collectables was established in 1986. We began standing
at fairs around the West Sussex area selling mainly Wade
and other ceramic collectable figurines. We soon
discovered there were many Wade collectors looking for
information on their collecting passion. We approached
Wade Potteries, as they were called at the time, for
information on the Wade products which they had produced
and were referred to Pat Murray who we contacted. She
sold us her first edition book "Whimsical
Wades". "How
many do you want?" she asked, "I have a bedroom
full of them!" If only she had known then what she
knows now, she could have made a fortune selling her
first edition as it now changes hands for at least £50
for a signed copy. (Right) Pat Murray signing her book at
the Wade Swap Meet,
Arundel, West Sussex, England. (Left) the Wade
Collectors' Centre. After a while more and more collectors & dealers were discovering the demand for Wade and it became harder to find stock so in 1992 we approached Wade to have our Arthur Hare character from the Childrens book The Silent Butterfly produced. This proved such a great success that other characters followed. With Andy Capp in 1994, C&S were the first ever to commission Wade to produce a licensed figure which was followed over the next few years with international characters such as Betty Boop, Snoopy, Garfield, The Arthur Hare Collection and many other licensed characters produced in various limited editions available by mail order. In 1995 we took our first retail premises at 15 High Street, Arundel, West Sussex, moving to our current premises The Official Wade Collectors' Centre in the Autumn of 1997 which was also the year of the first Wade Swap Meet this proved to be a huge success. The Collectors' Centre has become popular worldwide and has received a lot of media attention from TV & Press with articles appearing in the Mail on Sunday's Collecting by Lorne Spicer, The Daily Telegraph and the Daily Express, also our Arthur Hare character has featured on Channel Four's Collectors' Lot and ITV's Antiques Trail. Collect It! featured an article on Wade collecting in their first issue after the editor Gwyn Jones (right) had visited the shop & Susan Brewer has written articles on Betty Boop and Arthur Hare for the collectors magazine Collectables. Many other articles have appeared in Collect It! on the Centre and C&S and this magazine has proved to be the #1 choice for collectors. In January 2000 C&S were honoured to receive the title of The Official UK Hagen-Renaker Collectors Centre. The President of Hagen-Renaker Mrs Susan Nikas said that she attributes the growth in sales in the UK to C&S Collectables. We now carry a larger selection of collectables, Hagen Renaker ,Coalport Warner Bros, Retired Wade, and Sugarlump Studios. (left) Hayley.
