Selling originally for around 20p each in little round boxes which resembled drums, the Drum Box Series was first issued in May 1957 and ran for two years until April 1959.
The set had a musical theme with four of the animals playing instruments with a fifth being the singer.
All figures which stand about 2" high, were the original work of Wade's prestigious modeller William Harper who actually had ideas for several more although only five ever went into general production. (see original artwork).
1 Jem - A 2" tuba playing bulldog with a patch over his right eye. (present value £60)
2 Clara - A 2" cello playing cow with a distinctly serious face. (present value £55)
3 Harpy - A long eared doleful harp playing dog. (present value £65)
4 Trunky - A drum playing elephant. (present value £65)
5 Dora - the diva donkey of the group. (present value £90)
