Betty
Boop Feature
Betty Boop
started out in the early 1930's as a dog
character, primarily as the love interest
of a dog character named Bimbo, in the
Talkartoons series produced by Dave &
Max Fleischer. She was featured in
several cartoons as this dog character
through 1930. It didn't take long for
Betty to surpass Bimbo in popularity, and
become the main character in many of her

Wade Feature
Sir George Wade
was born plain George Albert Wade on July
19th 1891 in Burslem. His father, also
George, owned a pottery in Burslem and
was a local Justice of the Peace (JP).

Hagen-Renaker
as most people now know, began in
a garage in Culver City in
California in 1944. At that time
they were producing tableware
dishes, flower bowls, plates and
plaques. The next major
development occurred in 1947 with
Maxine Renaker's thumb sized
duck.(left picture) which in
effect was the beginning of the
miniature line. By 1951
Hagen-Renaker had expanded and
moved to Monrovia where the
Designer's workshop was started

connection
Since the end
of the Second World War there has been a
close relationship, both personal and
working, between the Wade group of
potteries of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, UK
and the Hagen-Renaker
Pottery of Los
Angeles, California in the USA. For many
years Iris Carryer, Sir George Wade's
eldest daughter, was great friends with
Maxine Renaker, wife of the founder of
the company Jim Renaker, indeed after her
retirement from Wade Ireland in 1963,
Iris and her husband, Strayker Carryer
actually worked for a number of years for
Hagen-Renaker as their Southern

& Jessie Van Hallen Feature

other great people, Jessie van Hallen
only really achieved fame after her death
in 1983 when Wade collecting was in its
